Jo Armstrong

Tertiary Education in Tasmania.

Qualified Primary Teacher.

Qualified member of Australasian Porcelain Art Teachers Association.

Jo Armstrong has enjoyed a lifelong interest in Art. While studying to become a School Teacher she also attended Drawing Classes at a Technical College at night. Originally painting in oils, she began painting on Porcelain 36 years ago and has concentrated on this medium ever since. During this time she has studied with many extremely talented local artists, as well as Master Artists from Royal Worcester and Royal Crown Derby in England and from the Meissen and K P M Manufactories in Germany.

She has displayed her work in many Exhibitions and gained Highly Commended Awards in 1983, '84,'85,'91 and '96 for framed Porcelain Art and was awarded the Walker Memorial Trophy and a additional Trophy at the Bright Gallery in 1994 for decorative work. In 1996 she was awarded 5 First’s and 1 Second in the Royal Melbourne Show on the only occasion she has exhibited there.

In the year 2001 Jo had two examples of her work selected by the Canberra Museum and gallery for a prestigious Exhibition " Porcelain Art into the New Millennium".

In 2013 an example of Jo Armstrong’s work was acquired by the Hamilton Art Gallery.

Jo is a member of The Ceramic and Glass Circle of Australia, the Victorian Guild of China Painters and a member and Past President of the Australasian Porcelain Art Teachers,Vic. Inc.
